This week we visited Northbridge and took some photos that illustrated our feelings about social justice issues. This week was CHOGM and there was not a homeless person to be seen. The city gardens looked amazing.
How did you feel about the flowers replacing the homeless for those few days?
We saw a man who was carrying a sleeping bag crossing the street on St George's Terrace and as he got to us a police vehicle mounted the kerb. The police questioned him, took his possessions and placed him in the vehicle. Where did he go and what happened to him?
Who makes the call and what is the criteria for deciding who to 'round up' ?
We went to Willetton to do a drumming session with people who had acquired brain injuries. it was confronting to speak to people whose lives had been greatly affected by accidents and often circumstances not entirely of their own making like car accidents where they were the passenger.
We went outside our comfort zone and visited Wheelchair Sports at Mirrabooka to have a go at wheel chair basketball. We heard the stories of the people affected by spinal injury.
Does losing something make you compensate in other areas?

Week 2
This week we looked at Teamwork - is it a matter of minimising the weaknesses and maximizing the strengths to achieve a stronger unit? We may need to change roles depending on what's required at the time. What's the problem/injustice with not pulling your weight?
We added another chapter to our Social Justice experience by visiting the ACTIV Industries. How did you feel before and after the visit?
Week 1
This week we learned a little about ourselves and how to function effectively in a group.
We were introduced to the concept of Social Justice and visited the Tranby Day Centre for the Homeless.
We heard Tony's story.............
After this visit will you think about your criteria before you judge people?
In 2008 Gerry Harvey (from Harvey Norman) said that homeless people got themselves into this mess they should get themselves out of it. Harvey's statement suggests that the homeless have control over all of their circumstances. Who's responsible?

What is Katitjin?
Wesley College has introduced a unique and innovative program into the Year 8 and Year 9 curriculum. The name of the program is ‘Katitjin’ which is a Nyoongar term that means ‘to listen and to learn’. The program takes learning beyond the classroom into a range of challenging and inspirational environments.
This unique and innovative program aims to challenge and extend students and take them out of their comfort zones within a supportive environment. The program is designed to focus on a range of personal issues such as self awareness, identity, working in teams, leadership and engagement in learning. The program will also involve a remote module where boys will take their learning outdoors into new environments. In 2011 the location is an Indigenous station named Morapoi which is located in the Northern Goldfields.
